FS2002 Douglas DC-3 Bush Pilots Airways Air Cargo VH-MAL
--------------------------------------------------------

VH-MAL is a legendary aircraft, in that she was Cathay Pacific's founding aircraft "Betsy" (VR-HDB) after conversion from a wartime C-47 and returned to Cathay eventually to become a museum piece in Hong Kong, where she is today.

After leaving Cathay in 1955, she went to Mandated Airlines in New Guinea; flew in two liveries for Ansett PNG, three liveries for Bush Pilots Airways (this is the third one) from Cairns, Australia and finally for Air Queensland, who bought out the latter company.

There will be a repaint (or two) of this famous lady in her Ansett colours in due course, time allowing.

Based on Jan Visser's legendary DC-3 model for FS2000, updated for FS2002, the model includes transparent cabin windows, nightlighting, 3D interior with opening cargo doors, boarding ladder, cargo both inside and outside the aircraft (at rest) and other details. Repaint by Mark Beaumont.

This file includes textures only. The file DC3AQAC.ZIP is required to be installed first (Air Queensland colours).

INSTALLATION

1. Unzip DC3BPA.ZIP to a temporary folder.

2. Using WINDOWS EXPLORER, navigate to your FS2002/AIRCRAFT folder and open the sub-folder 'Douglas DC-3 Air Queensland VH-MAL'

3. Make a copy of the entire texture folder within (COPY, PASTE). Name the copy TEXTURE.BPA

4. Move the five BMP files from the folder BPA TEXTURES (in this download) to the folder you have just created, TEXTURE.BPA. When asked whether to overwrite, say yes.

5. If you wish to, back up the AIRCRAFT.CFG file within the folder 'Douglas DC-3 Air Queensland VH-MAL'. Then open AIRCRAFT.CFG using a text editor. Under the first [fltsim.0] entry listing your Air Queensland 'plane, insert the following:

[fltsim.1]
title=Douglas DC-3 VH-MAL BPA
sim=dc3
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=bpa
checklists=
description=Bush Pilots Airways Air Cargo DC-3 freighter VH-MAL (ex-Cathay Pacific "Betsy"). Repainted by Mark Beaumont from original Douglas DC-3 TDM Freighter version\n\n\n\nDesigner : Jan Visser\nFlight Dynamics: Erik Ellis, Jan Visser, Roy Chaffin, Ian Ropper, & Bill Rambow\n
ui_manufacturer=Douglas
ui_type=DC-3
ui_variation=Bush Pilots Airways VH-MAL
atc_flight_number=045
atc_heavy=0
atc_id=VH-MAL
atc_airline=

6. Save the file. That's it.

Now when you fire up FS2002, you will find a new aircraft under manufacturer: Douglas, type: DC-3, variation: Bush Pilots Airways VH-MAL

CREDITS:

Jan Visser, for the original aircraft; together with Bill Rambow, Roy Chaffin and others, Jan remains on the leading edge of development within FS. This repaint is based on the model of the TDM Freighter. Most of the incredible metal textures are Jan's, together with interior textures etc., etc. I simply rearranged the pallets a little and slapped on a drop of paint outside.

Martin Willing, author of "Betsy, the story of a DC-3" for his generosity and assistance.

Anyone else whose work might be here that I am unaware of. All files here, other than my repaint work, have been uploaded previously in the public domain as freeware. If anything is here that shouldn't be, please let me know and I'll replace it.
